Guide to Daya Nueva
daya_nuevaDaya is an Arabic word which means the place where the waters coming from the surrounding mountains meet. In the times of the Arabs this area was very swampy prompting them to construct a complex system of drainage ditches and aqueducts which subsequently allowed them to cultivate this area very successfully.

The town of Daya Nueva, located approximately 10 minutes inland from the long sandy beaches of Guardamar del Segura, in the province of Alicante, Valencia, Spain is home to approximately 1700 inhabitants. The town boasts several bars, restaurants, a variety of shops, banks, a supermarket and a primary school, as well as an outdoor municipal swimming pool, built in 2004, that is open during the summer months.

Much of Daya Nueva’s popularity lies in its ability to effortlessly combine the traditional Spanish village atmosphere with a modern day town. The variety of townhouses, villas and apartments that make up the central part of the town sit comfortably alongside the recently built small urbanisations that skirt the town itself.

The local townspeople are very friendly and actively welcome the international community that are making Daya Nueva their home in Spain. The town hall is keen to promote integration and actively include foreign residents in local fiestas, meeting groups and organised activities.

Daya Nueva occupies a great location; it sits conveniently midway between Alicante and San Javier-Murcia airports, just off the A7. It takes less than half an hour to drive to either airport, allowing one considerable freedom when choosing flights. There is also a further airport currently under construction in Corvera which is anticipated to open to passengers in 2010.

Daya Nueva’s closest neighbours are the towns of Daya Vieja, Almoradí, Dolores, Formentera and Rojales, with the larger resort of Torrevieja only 20 minutes drive away. Alicante itself offers a huge range of things to do, including large shopping malls, sports activities, culture, historical monuments as well as a thriving nightlife. An hour north of Daya Nueva is the popular resort of Benidorm, home to the Terra Mitica and Terra Natura theme parks, both well worth a visit. To the south is Murcia and Mar Menor, both areas that are growing in popularity for people wishing to buy property on the Costa Blanca, and in particular for those whose passion is golf, as there are several superb golf courses in these areas.

guardamar_beachBeach lovers are spoilt for choice along the Costa Blanca; the south east coast of Spain has an abundance of beaches, from busy tourist areas sprinkled with bars and restaurants to long sand dunes accessible only on foot. Whatever your preference there is a beach to suit you.
